IDS Toronto’s Ontario Wood program invites submissions
Taking place in January, IDS Toronto is poised to return to Canada’s biggest city for its 21st year. For next year, Ontario Wood is a returning initiative to help consumers identify and purchase locally made Ontario Wood products. Ontario’s forests offer a wide variety of wood species with characteristics suitable for many needs. Local manufacturers produce everything from structural lumber to flooring, furniture, sculptural objects and artisan goods. Ontario Wood is the natural choice for designers seeking to achieve the balance between function, beauty, versatility and performance. Submissions for the Ontario Wood program are now open, with the winning design set to be featured as an installation at January’s show.

The objective of the Ontario Wood call for submission is to select a team to design, build and install a temporary installation at IDS18 (January 17-20, 2019 in the South Building, Metro Toronto Convention Centre). The Interior Design Show (IDS) is billed as Canada’s premier showcase of new products, innovative designers and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond. This past year, over 53,000 trade professionals, influential consumers and media attended the event to be inspired by the latest products and connect with suppliers and manufacturers.

The selected design team will receive an honorarium of up to $25,000 (CDN) to realize the project, inclusive of all costs associated with the design, manufacture and installation of the pavilion in situ at IDS. This design honorarium includes: applicable duties and costs associated with the design, management, transportation to and from IDS, lighting & electrical, rigging, supervision, installation, dismantling, disposing of materials and any damage to the show floor or other parts of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. With sufficient written notification and coordination, some additional costs may be offset by Ontario Wood partners with the provision, installation, dismantling, etc. of their own products.
Submissions to IDS Toronto’s Ontario Wood design program are due by September 6. More information is available via the event’s official website, linked here.
