New offerings from Finnish brand Iittala for Fall 2018

Finnish design brand Iittala began as a glass factory in Iittala, Finland in 1881. For 137 years, the company has produced distinctive and highly functional objects of exceptional quality inspired by Finnish design heroes Kaj Franck and Alvar Aalto. Over its history, Iittala has introduced many award-winning design classics that have endured for decades, including the timeless Aarne glassware series by Göran Hongell, and Tapio Wirkkala’s Ultima Thule collection, which was inspired by the melting ice in Lapland.

For Fall 2018, Iittala augments some of their classic collections with new pieces and colours, extending the always exquisite range of glassware, tableware, and objects for the home.

The perfect and essential Essence collection designed by Alfredo Häberli is now available in three new gorgeous seasonal colours: dark grey, moss green and pale pink. The special items are mouthblown in an Iittala glass factory in Finland, and are available in all three colours as a 35cl tumbler, while the 100cl carafe is available in the moss green and pale pink. Essence is world-renowned for its thin lip, a rarity in lead-free glass, combined with its delicate stem – all of which conveys a modern, minimal design with edgy character.

Just in time for the holidays, Iittala releases a new set of mouthblown glass ornaments for the Christmas tree. The elegantly minimalist transparent glass orbs reflect a Nordic simplicity, an ideal complement to the delicate green needles of coniferous trees they will adorn. The ornaments come in deliciously warm shades that progress from pale pink to deep red, and the set is attractively packaged in a round hatbox, making it ideal for a gift.

And as we head towards the darker months of autumn and winter, the presence of ambient light is evermore important. The Nappula candleholder was inspired by designer Matti Klenell visit to the Nuutajärvi glass museum, where he fell in love with an unusually shaped table. In this product, the designer combines his love of vintage and modern forms with Nappula’s strong Nordic design. For Fall 2018, the Nappula series expands its offerings with three new products: a modern glass pillar candleholder with an elegant stem in grey and moss green; a four-armed candelabra in white and dark grey; and classic Nappula metal candleholders, now available in two new high-quality powder-coated colours of aqua and moss green.
