Giannone Petricone complete new food hall at Upper Canada Mall
Market & Co. is a new 40,000 sq.ft. exciting food destination within Upper Canada Mall. It marks the first completed food hall in a series designed by Giannone Petricone Associates (GPA) – a Toronto based design firm known for its innovative hospitality projects. The market is Canada’s first food market concept that responds to the public’s growing interest in today’s food culture.

GPA designed Market & Co. as a hybrid marketplace that encourages structured and curated chaos. The 20 tenants were encouraged to express their originality by layering and customizing their space within the consistent framework of the episodic Food Market.
The 20 tenants include fast-casual and full-service restaurants, artisanal shops and event space with a demonstration kitchen. GPA’s version of the 1,440 sq.ft. demo kitchen includes a small back-of-house, display cooking zone and counter bar seating inspired by a theatrical take on hospitality. The kitchen is a flexible space that will accommodate food classes, guest lectures, food preparation and/or cooking demonstrations, temporary pop-up shops, and expanded seating area for use by the general market patrons when the kitchen is not in use.
In addition to the demo kitchen, GPA designed several tenant spaces including Bake Three Fifty stall, the food truck’s first retail location; Sugar King Factory kiosk; Ma’s Best Soups, a Toronto-based company that sells small-batch gourmet soups using all-natural ingredients; Pier 87 Fish Market & Grill stall where you can find a counter selling fresh and frozen sustainable seafood; and Ray Woodey’s Craft Chippery, a stall that makes fresh organic chips.
In addition to Market & Co., GPA are currently working on the new Eataly marketplace in Toronto; other food hall concepts at La Marche de la Capitale in Quebec and at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga as well as a new food experience in midtown Toronto for the owners of Terroni Restaurants and Cumbrae’s Butcher Shops.
