Designed for Wewood – Portuguese Joinery — a company that manufactures and exports solid wood furniture —Christophe de Sousa’s Bridge desk is among the 2019 Bronze Winners, in the Interior Furniture category, of the European Product Design Award.
The Product Design Award recognizes the efforts of international designers and design teams with an objective to improve daily lives with practical creations.
Bridge desk’s minimalistic rounded surfaces was inspired by the city of Porto, which according to Wewood – Portuguese Joinery, is the only city in Europe with six bridges.
The product mimics the structures found on the bridges in Porto with materials made from oak or walnut and steel arcs that span the legs.
“At times that everything seems digitally connected but everybody fights against deconcentration and dispersion, Bridge will remind you to always keep connections and provide a passage over the obstacles that you may face at work,” said Wewood – Portuguese Joinery.
Born in France, Christophe de Sousa is a Franco-Portuguese designer who is “passionate by the process of creation and production, while obstinate by the form versus the function.”
With a studio based in Porto, the Franco-Portuguese designer’s portfolio includes projects with companies such as Delta Cafés, Siemens, Mercedes-Benz Headquarter Office and international institutions (Universidad Católica de Chile and BID16 -Bienal Iberoamericana de Diseño).
