Teknion and Studio TK Win Good Design Awards

Teknion’s Emote Private Office and Teknion Reception Desk Program, along with Studio TK’s Freehand Occasional Tables and Havn Seating Collection recently received 2019 Good Design Awards in the Furniture category.

Founded in Chicago in 1950, Good Design covers new consumer products, graphics and packaging designed and manufactured in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America.

The award program is organized annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.

For 2019, over 900 new products and graphic designs were selected from over 47 countries. Teknion Reception Desk Program’s communal design addresses how public and private spaces are blending. To encourage customization, the program offers five distinct starting points of desks, a communal bar and storage console, and classic desk with L return.

Emote transforms the private office into the creative office. This collection of distinct furniture elements brings an expressive quality to the workspace through a palette of new paint colours applied to wood that provides nearly endless combinations of finish options. Lighter in scale and well-suited to today’s smaller spaces, Emote is simple, easy to understand and puts the user in control of their space.

“It’s an honor for Teknion to once again be recognized with Good Design Awards,” said Joe Regan, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing, Corporate Marketing and Design. “Congratulations to Emote designer and long-time collaborator Mario Ruiz, and to our own in-house design studio that created Teknion Reception.”

Studio TK’s Freehand Occasional Tables is a multi-purpose system designed for commercial interiors of any kind. Its modular nature and variety of shape and size options allow it to serve as a side table or coffee table depending on the layout of the area it occupies.

Havn is a Scandinavian-inspired seating collection comprising a winged lounge chair and settee. The low-back settees and lounges addresses the demand for increased flexibility in today’s workplace by providing a comfortable area for socializing, collaborative work, or casual interviews.

The high-back offerings block distractions for employees as they work on tasks that require a great deal of focus, and serves as an alternative to conference rooms for two-person meetings.

“We are honoured that our new Freehand Occasional Tables and Havn Seating collections have been recognized by the Good Design jury as being among the best and most outstanding 2019 design products across the globe,” said Charlie Bell, President, Studio TK. “We are proud to share these awards with Freehand designers Tom Lloyd and Luke Pearson, and with Havn designers Flemming Busk and Stephan Hertzog.”
