Christopher John Rogers debuts capsule furniture collection with Orior
Orior, the Irish design studio and furniture manufacturer, has partnered with New York-based fashion designer Christopher John Rogers on a special four piece capsule collection of archival chairs.
The collection is re-imagined by Christopher to benefit Color of Change, a nonprofit civil rights advocacy organization that builds tangible power for Black communities in America. The Orior + Christopher John Rogers capsule collection consists of four pieces, all pulled from Orior’s collections dating back to 1979, which were designed by the brand’s founder Brian McGuigan and updated with modern finishes by current Creative Director Ciaran McGuigan.
“I am a massive fan of Christopher’s vision and have been in awe at the incredible mark he has made on American fashion; it’s so exciting for this to be Orior’s first major collaboration with an external designer,” says Ciaran McGuigan. “Orior still remains a family and friends-run company, so it means everything to us to partner with Christopher in this way and support Color of Change.”
Each piece from the collection is adorned with a specific and recognizable pattern from Christopher’s repertoire. The designs include:
The André Chair takes on a 1960’s Scandinavian sensibility and features the “Combo Wave Check” print, consisting of a black and white zebra wave and check pattern, from Christopher John Rogers, Collection 007.
The Mozart Chair is compact with an embracing, curved back and an oak cylindrical base. It has been upholstered in the “Rainbow Stripe” print, consisting of vertical stripes inspired by a sweater from Christopher John Rogers, Collection 008.
The Lia Chair is a Danish-inspired wingback chair that infuses the traditional elements of a reading chair with sharp edges and high stature. It is upholstered in the iconic “Gradient Dot” print from Christopher John Rogers, Collection 008.
The Pop Chair was inspired by Arne Jacobsen and is upholstered in a mix of the “Rainbow Multi Check” in linen, a black and ivory stripe in cotton, and Cantaloupe and black check in printed velvet, inspired by a fully-fashioned knit tee from Collection 008.
Each chair can be purchased at Orior’s showroom at 32 Mercer Street or at oriorfurniture.com. They are made to order, with 100% of the profits donated.
