In Memoriam: Saul Feldberg, 1935 – 2023
Saul Feldberg, founder and Chairman of Global Furniture Group and Teknion Corporation, has peacefully passed away at the age of 87.
Saul is an icon within the Canadian manufacturing landscape and the furniture industry worldwide. He founded Global in 1966, with a singular vision; to manufacture an office chair the average person could afford.
In 1983 he established Teknion to pursue the architecture and design community. Under Saul’s leadership and along with his sons Joel and David, President and CEOs of Global and Teknion respectively, both companies have grown to be one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the world.
Saul’s extraordinary life and legacy are defined by his generosity and commitment to his family, his employees, and the community. Saul had time for everyone. He personified his grassroots leadership style by walking the factory floor daily, greeting everyone by name.
“Above all, Saul will always be remembered as a very kind, attentive, hardworking, funny, and inviting person, who treated everybody around him with respect,” says Martin Spreer, Senior Publisher of Canadian Interiors magazine. “I fondly remember the laughter and closeness of our first meeting, many years ago, which included a personal factory tour followed by the obligatory Global big chair photo-op. His hard work paved the way for a flourishing Canadian furniture industry and all of us at Canadian Interiors would like to express our deepest condolences to the Feldberg family. May his memory be for blessing.”
Saul is survived by his wife, Toby, their four children, Janice, David, Joel, and Bernie, along with the rest of his family.
