Host registration open for ACO NextGen Job Shadow Program 2024
ACO NextGen is seeking hosts for the 12th annual Job Shadow program.
Host registration is now open for the 12th annual ACO NextGen Job Shadow program.
The program, which aims to bring together students and emerging professionals with established members of their chosen field, will take place from February 19 to 23, 2024, and will enable registrants to host either a student or emerging professional virtually or in-person.
Past hosts have included architecture and engineering firms, government bodies and diverse non-profits. As many organizations continue to operate under a hybrid model, the NextGen Job Shadow will continue as a hybrid event, which will allow hosts to make themselves available virtually and/or in person as their availability permits.
While ACO NextGen will be responsible for pairing hosts with a “shadow”, the exact date, programme for the day, and other logistics will be left up to them and the participant(s). Once matched, e-mail and contact information between hosts and shadows will be exchanged.
Virtual hosts are asked to commit to at least two hours throughout the week to meet with their shadow through video conferencing or the phone. In-person hosts are encouraged to commit to one business day with their shadow. Some examples of activities that can be conducted virtually include discussions of the host’s own career progression, sitting-in on meetings/consultations and reviewing planning documents, professional reviews of a participant’s portfolio or assisting with special events.
If meeting in person, some examples of in-person activities could include site visits to past or current projects, neighbourhood architecture tours or tours of offices, labs, and workshops.
By participating in this program, hosts are helping to shape students and emerging professionals who will become the next leaders in the heritage industry.
This year’s host registration deadline is Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. EST.
