Four Canadian Projects Among IIDA’s Best of Competition Winners

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has announced the Best of Competition winners for the 2023 Best of Asia Pacific Awards and the 2023 Global Excellence Awards which include four Canadian projects.

A total of four Canadian projects are among the winners of IIDA’s Best of Competition with three having won 2023 IIDA Global Excellence Awards and one awarded a 2023 Best of Asia Pacific Design Award.

The 2023 IIDA Global Excellence Awards honour innovation and creativity in international interior design and interior architecture projects while the 11th annual Best of Asia Pacific Awards honours projects based in Asian Pacific countries.

The three Canadian winning projects from the 2023 IIDA Global Excellence Awards are the Weldon Library Revitalization Phase 1 in London, Ontario, by Perkins&Will in the Education category, the Park Hyatt  in Toronto by Studio Munge in the Hotels category and Club Saint-Denis in Montreal by Humà Design + Architecture in the Restaurants, Lounges, and Bars category.

“Showcasing these remarkable design teams, nominated for different awards in the same categories, is truly a future-facing beacon for design around the world,” said IIDA Executive vice president and CEO, Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “Hospitality projects continue to grow and are all-encompassing. Hospitality designers must envelop the guest in a total experience that is simultaneously inventive, exceptional, relaxing, and memorable.”

The Global Excellence Award winners, including Best of Competition, were chosen by a jury of design professionals including ALA founder and principal, Alda Ly; Studio BV founder and CEO, Betsy Vohs, Associate AIA and Flad Architects interior designer, Sara Wolf, IIDA.

The Best of Asia Pacific Awards winners, including the Best of Competition, were chosen by a jury of design professionals including Lamar Johnson collaborative senior interior designer, Jade Li, IIDA; IIDA South Florida Chapter president and Gresham Smith interior designer, Midori Shim, IIDA and Atelier Cho Thompson co-founder and principal, Ming Thompson, IIDA, AIA.

The Best of Competition winners were announced and honoured at a celebration on February 17, 2024 at the L’Atelier des Abbesses in Paris.
