McCallumSather has announced the completion of its latest project, an upscale bowling alley for The Ballroom Bowl, located in the Yorkville district of Toronto.

The second venue  in the city for this brand, which was designed to be a sophisticated take on a traditional bowling alley, contains a wood-feature ceiling with integrated lighting that greets guests upon entry. The project also provides direct connection to Yonge Street and the  Yonge/Bloor Subway station.

After descending the escalators, guests are then led into the venue by changing, multi-coloured, light-up signage. The city collage wall graphic, designed by mcCallumSather’s project designer, Henry Dowling, aims to capture Toronto’s vibrancy, and contains several nods to Hamilton, its neighbouring city.

“We aimed to create an immersive space that seamlessly blends luxury and meticulous craftsmanship, responding
to the unique character of the venue and the client’s vision,” said Liz Gabaldo, interior design lead and senior associate at mcCallumSather.

The lounge area offers an open kitchen view and curved cave-like acoustic control while the dining area features both booth and table seating, lighting pendants and a three-sided water vapour fireplace. Beside it sits a bar with concealed TVs, and walnut and brass detailing. The VIP area integrates private bowling lanes, millwork features, leather couch seating, and full-screen TVs.

The space, which was formerly the McEwan grocery store, retained the former washroom rough-ins, which is a significant portion of the existing commercial kitchen and back-of-house areas. Additionally, it kept the existing concrete floor and columns, some fixtures, and glazing, which all add to the sustainability of the design choices. Back-of-house admin areas were also repurposed for reuse by Ballroom staff, which minimized demolition.

exactly what we had in mind – a space that seamlessly blends sophistication with an inviting atmosphere, creating
the perfect setting for our guests to enjoy. Their expertise truly brought our concept to life,” said Paul Donato, owner
of The Ballroom Bowl.
