These pop-up pavilions in the Chinese cities of Xi’an and Zhengzhou reconceive the shopping mall atrium as a temporary civic interior rather than a purely commercial zone. Positioned within high-traffic circulation corridors of luxury shopping malls, the installations function as sculptural interruptions that encourage visitors to slow down and occupy space that would otherwise be transitional. Drawing from the brand’s Arctic heritage, the design abstracts the geometry of the iconic disc logo into an inhabitable architectural form. Suspended overhead, the circular ceiling element establishes a strong visual presence from multiple mall levels, transforming the pavilion into a landmark. Below, a continuous deep-blue carpet references the Arctic Ocean and wraps the interior, softening the retail environment and creating a sense of enclosure amid the surrounding commercial intensity. Reflective surfaces and integrated lighting amplify visibility while reinforcing the pavilion’s role as a public-facing destination designed as much for engagement and pause as for transaction.
