The gabled form of this weekend rural retreat with white board-and-batten walls and deeply recessed floor-to-ceiling windows draws on the agrarian vernacular language of single-storey barns and modest farmhouses. The skewed roofline animates the familiar pitched silhouette, responding to the site’s uneven topography while orienting interior spaces toward compelling views. Along the southern edge, floor-to-ceiling glazing opens the house to the landscape, extending the main living areas onto a railing-free deck that incorporates a cedar-clad hot tub adjoining the master suite. Interior circulation flows through a mudroom with laundry and storage to a communal, gable-shaped volume. The kitchen is anchored by a substantial island; white-oak cabinets rise to meet the angled ceiling planes. At the opposite end of the great room, the living area offers a built-in wall library, a fireplace and a wood-burning stove tucked into a corner. Subtle cues guide movement and zoning: Radiant-heated white-oak floors with wide floorboards shift orientation between private and public areas.
