Perched on the 40th floor of a Montréal tower and framing panoramic views of the downtown, the new Torys office contrasts against the office’s previous, more-austere corporate Modernist iteration and exemplifies the post-Covid trend for high-end office design to unfold less as a workplace and more as a private club. Visitors enter through a reception area that echoes a boutique-hotel lounge, softening the atmosphere and introducing comfort and a sense of belonging rarely seen in traditional legal settings. Narrow lighting troughs trace the ceiling plane while cove lighting washes down wall planes, guiding movement while preserving visual continuity through open corridors. Highly figured, colourful polished-marble slabs pop against a background of wood paneling, sounding a theme of warmth and tactile richness that position the firm as well-established and assured.
