Urban Mode has built its reputation on fun, affordable and great design. When we opened the first store in 1977, we were proud to feature home grown Canadian talent. Taking risks to surprise and delight our customers – we were the first to carry the Umbra line of products!
We showcase exclusive product from unique lines such as Blu Dot, SoftLine, Muuto, Normann Copenhagen, Pablo Lighting, Menu and soon to come – Hay, just to name a few.
So what’s the secret to our longevity? Our customers.
They voted us ‘Best Furniture Store’ in Toronto … more than once! Perhaps it’s the exclusive curated collection or the fun accessories, or maybe they like the fact that we’re a little different … in a good way.
Our customers are looking for different. Something that makes their interiors unique and their design work stand out. Something they can’t find anywhere else.
Inspiration. Urban Mode is a happy place to get your creative juices flowing.
Oh no … you won’t find any beige or brown floor models here. We display contemporary designs in delicious colours for you to enjoy, even though we know you may order beige … and that’s okay with us.
Our customers come to find the right design solution to fit their environment.
We still take the risks to delight our customers. Drop by for a little inspiration soon.
Our goal is to bring good design to as many people as possible.
That means creating products that are useful, affordable, and desirable. To make that happen, our design process is founded on collaboration. Not just among ourselves as we play show-and-tell with concepts, but as a total collaboration from pencil and paper, materials and machines, even packaging and assembly.
We like to think that the form is almost inevitable, a by-product of the process. Our job is simply to help it emerge as beautifully and as efficiently as possible.
We design it. We stand behind it. We hope you dig it.

About Blu Dot
As friends in college we shared a passion for art, architecture and design. After school, we went looking for modern design to furnish our first homes, but the things we could afford we didn’t like, and the things we liked we couldn’t afford. We figured we weren’t alone.
So, along with our friend Charlie Lazor, the three of us – two architects and a sculptor – started Blu Dot in 1997. We’ve been designing things we love in our Minneapolis studio every day since.
