Hooray for DIALOG

Alberta Interior Design Excellence was celebrated recently, with DIALOG receiving multiple honours. AIMCo, the new Edmonton offices for the Alberta Investment Management Corporation, was presented with Gold recognition, while Edmonton’s Royal Alexandra Hospital Robbins Pavilion and Calgary’s Nexen Conference Centre were recognized with Silver standing all as part of the bi-annual Interior Designers of Alberta (IDA) Design Competition. The Calgary offices for the United Farmers of Alberta were also recognized with an Honourable Mention during the event. Awards were conveyed at the IDA’s Urban Encounters held September 28 in Calgary and October 5 in Edmonton. The DIALOG interior design team, designers for all four projects, was present to accept the recognition.

Proud of the achievement, the team shares the recognition with DIALOG’s fully integrated design team. “We are extremely delighted to receive recognition of our Alberta studios’ work in both the corporate office and institutional sectors,” expressed Michelle Sigurdson, Principal – Interior Design.  “Our interior design and integrated design teams continually strive for design excellence within the diverse range of DIALOG’s projects and should be proud of these acknowledgements.”

AIMCo presented great challenges and great opportunities. The client, an investment corporation, had transitioned from a government department into a stand-alone entity in order to expand their investment portfolio. Key design principles included non-hierarchical, collaborative, open offices with workstations located at the perimeter windows, interior offices, an interconnected stair, sustainability, and support spaces that fostered innovation, creativity and employee empowerment.

The Robbins Pavilion is the largest addition to the Royal Alexandra hospital campus in a decade. Its development is instrumental in helping attract leading experts and in consolidating programs and services into a single building.  The organizing principles for the building are based on intuitive wayfinding and connecting to the exterior and nature wherever possible.

Vibrant and dynamic, Nexen is a global leader with an exciting future. They view their evolving amenity and work spaces as a viable tool to reinforce this unique identity. The creation of a multi-function conference environment is based on this vision. The conference environment had to engage staff, investors and outside visitors. The core directives were safety, well being, environmental sensibility, universality and visual appeal.

In the design for the United Farmers Association Corporate Offices, the driver was to create an environment reflective of the client’s corporate brand; that being a rich rural history with an emerging progressive vision.

DIALOG has a track record of award-winning collaborative design excellence and is committed to the practice of sustainable design with a focus on the success of clients and communities. Working from studios in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, DIALOG credits its strength to its outstanding multidisciplinary team who deliver excellence and a collaborative approach to the provision of architectural, engineering, interior design, planning and urban design services.
