Hirschberg Design Group (HDG) of Toronto is thrilled to receive a “First Place” award from the prestigious American Society of Interior Designers for its vivid and animated design of m:brgr Toronto – home of the $100 burger. The award is in the ‘Hospitality over $500,000’ category and it joins a long list of ASID and other awards earned by HDG over its 38-year history.
As an international design practice with clients throughout North America, the Middle East and India, Hirschberg Design Group has received acclaim for Toronto projects such as The Turf Lounge on Bay and the Empire Restaurant and Lounge on Cumberland, to name a few.
The ASID award for the 200-seat m:brgr on Toronto’s King West entertainment strip recognizes the restaurant’s warm, playful and contemporary design. Oak-paneled walls and dark wood floors are a canvas for eye-catching and random accents, like the full-sized deer sculpture in the front window, and a series of Andy Warhol-esque coloured steer prints on the wall. Over-sized murals featuring Toronto’s and Montreal’s cityscapes are peppered with random oddities to keep customers amused in a “Where’s Waldo” kind of way. It’s fun and inviting without being frenetic – a “burger joint” for the funky King West crowd.
The ASID judging panel consists of industry professionals who gave HDG’s m:brgr Toronto design a score of 96/100.
“It’s vitally important that your clients like you, or you certainly can’t be in business for 38 years,” commented Martin Hirschberg, President of HDG. “But it’s also wonderful to be accepted by your peers.”
