Kasian shines at IDIBC Awards

Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning had a good night on Friday, September 19, at the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia’s (IDIBC) annual SHINE Awards, where they scooped up an Award of Excellence in the Public & Institutional Spaces category for  the design of the Esker Foundation Gallery, as well as the premier Robert Ledingham Award for Best in Show. In addition, the Kasian Calgary office won an Award of Merit in the Workplace Total category.

Located in Inglewood, one of Calgary’s oldest neighborhoods, the Esker Foundation Gallery is influential in its cultural reach and inspirational to the city and arts community. The Gallery has garnered critical acclaim from the media and surrounding community, most notably as a finalist at Interior Design magazine’s Best of Year Awards in 2012 and now an Award of Excellence and the prestigious ‘Best in Show’ at the IDIBC SHINE Awards.

“I am so pleased that the Esker Foundation Gallery has received such accolades from the design community” says Lois Wellwood, Principal in Charge for the construction of the gallery. “The unique and innovative approaches undertaken by the design team has certainly delivered on the mandate, making the gallery an instantly recognizable icon in the city, and now the rest of Canada.”

Tagged as a ‘High Performance Workplace’, the Kasian Calgary office is designed to be open, interactive, and highly functional. The culmination of these initiatives allows staff and guests to see, hear, and sense creativity – all core elements of the firm’s brand personality.

Throughout the design development, the team was committed to celebrating the essence of the firm’s personality and allowing the space to act as a backdrop for the firm’s people, patrons and processes. The Calgary office is the second of three offices (Toronto and Vancouver) Canada-wide that have undergone a transformation to reflect Kasian’s new brand standards.

“We are delighted to receive recognition for the design of our offices” says Wellwood. “Ultimately the design of the office is a backdrop for people and celebrates the firm’s culture of engagement, fun and excellence in all aspects of business.”
