Shaw Commercial Hard Surface walked away from Chicago this week with a Best of NeoCon award to put on its mantle. Chordinates, their latest commercial sheet vinyl, has captured the Silver Award in the Healthcare flooring category. This is actually the second year in a row Shaw has won in this category.
“Shaw Commercial Hard Surface is excited to be a Best of NeoCon winner for the second year in a row. Our team has done a great job of creating products that are as timeless in design as they are durable” says Steve DeCarlo, Vice President Commercial Hard Surface.
Pamela Rainey, Design Director, was inspired to develop the offset stripe pattern in ChromaTones after noticing a growing trend to create area rug design effects for hard surface flooring systems, especially within the healthcare segment. “We recognized the movement toward making institutional spaces feel more residential, but custom cutting can be costly and go out of fashion quickly. Our ChromaTone visual allows specifiers to incorporate interesting and functional design elements without additional expense or risk of looking dated before the floor will be replaced.” Additionally, this collection is the first in the industry to offer an extended 10 year warranty under hospital beds when installed with Shaw’s exclusive one-part adhesives, simplifying the process of creating an area rug look.
Each ChromaTone is made from combining four BassTones in two offset bands of stripes, which can be cut into tiles and arranged for geometric insets. The color line is designed to be a complementary pallet scheme allowing for functional and appealing designs. “The system is really easy to work with because colors are in families and can be combined in countless ways,” explains Rainey. BassTones features 20 neutrals and eight brights, all with an new “felted” visual for a more modern look. The Chordinates collection is engineered for high traffic environments and contains ExoGuard Quartz Enhanced Urethane and FlorSept Antimicrobial.
Chordinates is unique in that it synchronizes the life of the design with the long physical life associated with heterogeneous sheet vinyl. Knowing that healthcare flooring will be installed for 20 years or more, Shaw was inspired to develop a visual that would not become dated before the product life cycle expires. “Finding harmony between design and performance is a hallmark of Shaw’s commitment to offering durable, stylish resilient flooring for the commercial market,” DeCarlo states, “we will continue to innovate and strive to introduce products that inspire and simplify flooring installation for our clients.”
