Teknion’s dual award-winners

Teknion Corporation recently announced that two of its new products – the Interpret desking system and Optos Low Profile architectural wall – received Green Good Design Awards from The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. Teknion is the only contract furniture company to receive an award in the international 2013 Green Good Design competition.

“This year, the program received hundreds of submissions from over 35 countries,” reports the Green Good Design sponsors. “A jury composed of the European Centre’s International Advisory Committee selected 100 new buildings and product designs from 18 nations as a new design direction for an even greater, more heightened awareness to protect the world’s natural resources and the manufacturing and end-user’s growing concerns for a healthy ecology and human environment. Conserve, reuse, retrofit and recycle are prominent themes running across each awarded new product and building design.”

Says David Feldberg, Teknion president & CEO, “Sustainable development is part of our culture and is integral to everything we do. We design products that: promote productivity, efficiency, health and well-being; that use less raw material resources and less space within the office; and that have an extended life cycle. We thank the Green Good Design sponsors for recognizing our efforts, and for promoting sustainable design around the world for the good of all of us.”

ABOUT INTERPRET

Interpret is a contemporary benching and desking system that works for virtually any person, any task, anywhere in the world. Many design refinements have recently been made to Interpret, including new and unusually broad planning applications that go beyond traditional benching and desking capabilities unique to Teknion. A distinctive metal storage program and associated accessories collection with new formats addresses work habits and technology requirements of today’s mobile workers. New casual screens and an extensive color and finish program round out the enhancements.

ABOUT OPTOS LOW PROFILE

Optos Low Profile walls provide unparalleled access to daylight in interior spaces, offer acoustic privacy and create space division. The structure is minimal, and sophisticated rectilinear profiles blend harmoniously with modern interior architecture. Optos Low Profile has a European aesthetic while being sensitive to North American building needs. It is ideal for creating private offices and storefront planning, enclaves, boardrooms and casual lounge surrounds.

MORE AWARDS

In addition to receiving Green Good Design awards, Interpret and Optos Low Profile were recently honored with 2013 Best of NeoCon Silver Awards in Chicago – Interpret in the Furniture Systems Enhancements category and Optos Low Profile in the Walls: Movable category. In 2012, Interpret received a Silver Best of NeoCon in the Furniture: Benching category. Optos Low Profile recently received a 2013 Product Innovations Merit Award sponsored by Buildings magazine.

For 2013, 100 product design, graphics, architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning projects, together with visionary leaders, foundations and government, were awarded Green Good Design from 18 nations. Under the banner Build A Better World Now, designs for buildings and products that emphasize the most advanced green approach, and the most sophisticated methods and technology to make the most positive impact on the environment, were cited and awarded.
