The Family of Form exhibition in Milan
Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) of Eindhoven, Netherlands, is celebrating its 60th anniversary by organizing the exhibition The Family of Form, at the Salon del Mobile 2007 in the Museo Luciano Minguzzi in Milan, April 18 to 22. The exhibition, which will showcase the work of three generations of DAE graduates, will focus on the investigation of the identity of design. The exhibition’s central themes will be concerned with the importance of the individual standpoint and the design of a product’s individuality.
The Family of Form refers to the famous 1950s photo book The Family of Man by Edward Steichen. The book was the first to give an overall image of the peoples of the world, the uniqueness of their characteristics and the universality of their experience. The exhibition demonstrates how an inquiring attitude can lead to a varied yet coherent collection of forms.
DAE, founded in 1947 as an academy for industrial design, is the only independent college in the Netherlands that specializes entirely in design. The academy trains students in the field of product design, communication design, environmental design, interior design, trend prediction, automotive design, and the design of new media applications.
