Judges Choice and Peoples Choice winners were announced at the 10th annual Best of Canada Design Awards gala Sept. 26 at the Design Exchange in Toronto. The Judges Choice project winner, selected by a seven-person jury, was Pavillons Lassonde de lcole polytechnique, in Montreal, by Saia Barbarese Topouzanov Architectes; Desnoyers Mercure et Associes; and Menkes Shooner Dagenais Letourneux Architectes all based in Montreal. In the product category, the judges selected two winners: Scaffolding workstation system by Bartlett & Associates, Toronto; and Vox Open Office, by Mark Muller for Nienkmper, Toronto. The Peoples Choice winners, picked by over 900 online voters, were Eko, a Toronto jewellery store, by Dialogue 38, Toronto; and Splinter chairs, by Matthew Kroeker, Winnipeg.
Best of Canada Design Award winners all received plaques and Raku pottery bowls or vases by Shu-Chen Cheng, a Hamilton, Ont.based ceramic artist. Winners and guests were invited to view a display of the winning designs, while mingling over cocktails and live jazz.
