Chairs that care
The award-winning and extensive Jordan collection from Krug Healthcare Solutions has been expanded to include Recliners, Gliders and Bariatric Patient chairs. The Recliners and Gliders
were previewed at NeoCon 2007 in Chicago and were officially introduced at NeoCon East 2007 in Baltimore, along
with the Bariatric Patient chair. The Jordan collection won the Silver Award for Healthcare Furniture at NeoCon this
year, as well as the Best of Year Award from Interior Design magazine.
These three new chairs are the latest additions to a collection specifically designed for patient rooms, waiting areas,
and lobbies, which offer an extensive range of features for care-giving environments. The Jordan Recliners are
offered with two standard mechanisms: a 3-Position Mechanism, and a 3-Position with Trendelenberg Mechanism.
Both were designed for high-traffic, intensive use, utilizing high-strength steel and Delrin wear pads between
moving components for added smoothness and longevity. The mechanism, and virtually all of the other components
of the Recliner, are field replaceable, allowing easy and economical extensions of the life of the product.
Jordan Recliners have been designed with both the patient and the caregiver in mind. Four, 4″ rubber-wheel casters
are standard, and feature a soft swivel mechanism with an easy-access foot activation and release lever. The
ergonomic push bar aids caregiving staff in the movement and operation of the recliner, and reduces back strain for
the caregiver.
Jordan Recliner arms both solid wood and urethane capped – are designed to provide support and an easy and
effective hand hold to aid ingress and egress. The Jordan Recliner’s IV Pole is height adjustable, has the ability to be
located in four different locations (left, right, front or back) and is field replaceable. The Flip Up Tablet can be ordered
on either side of the recliner, and is available in Beech or Maple veneer (finished with Krug’s anti-microbial
Enduraguard finish), or plastic laminate with PVC edge.
Jordan Gliders are available in two widths 21″ and 24″ – for flexibility in accommodating patients of different sizes
and providing for the comfortable use of bolsters, pillows and other means of support for the patient. Jordan Gliders
move the patient in a smooth, flat arc that is gentle, soothing and safe, but keeps the patient’s feet on the floor
throughout the motion. The mechanism on the Glider, as well as virtually all other components of the chair, are field
replaceable, and the mechanism and features a locking function so that the Glider can become a fixed chair. The
Glider comes standard with a clean out feature a space at the back of the seat that allows dirt and debris to fall to
the floor for easy clean up and maintenance.
The Jordan Bariatric Patient chair has been designed with the same principles in mind as the existing 21″ and 24″
Patient chairs. The Bariatric Patient chair features a slight back flex to promote an upright position, which will enable
the user greater ease of egress. A forward curve on the open wood arm allows the user to support their body weight
as they rise. The wall saver feature is designed into each piece to increase the life cycle of the product and to
preserve the walls of the facility. The uniquely engineered clean out allows crumbs and trash to exit to the floor, while
at the same time giving the product an inviting look of highly designed furniture.
Jordan Bariatric Patient chair has been tested to pass and exceed the ANSI/BIFMA X5.4-2005 Backrest Strength
Test. The back surpasses the 500-lbs. static load test required and the seat and overall frame has been tested to 800
lbs. of static load on the seat.
Just like the existing Jordan line, the Recliner, Glider, and Bariatric Patient come standard with the Krug Enduraguard
anti-microbial wood finish, which helps to prevent the growth of bacteria. Removable seat and back upholstery
covers and moisture barriers extend the life cycle of all products in this collection.
All Jordan Healthcare Seating products have earned GREENGUARD certification for indoor air quality by the
GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI). Jordan seating has met the rigorous testing requirements and air
quality standards for low emitting products. Selecting low emitting products helps to minimize exposure to the
chemical emissions that are often released from interior furnishings and manufacturing materials.
“Krug has expanded the Jordan Healthcare Seating line to include products specifically geared for patient rooms with
the introductions of the Recliner, Glider and Bariatric Patient. Jordan has been incredibly well received in the
marketplace for its extensive features, striking design, and industry-leading value. The Recliners, Gliders, and
Bariatric Patient chairs have been heavily researched and engineered and are outstanding products on their own
merits but as part of the Jordan collection, they help us to provide a more comprehensive solution for healthcare
specifiers,” says Krug president Len Ruby.
