Behind the Yellow Door

The long anticipated new restaurant from the Hotel Arts Group, Yellow Door Bistro, has officially opened its doors to the public. Yellow Door Bistro combines the classic ingredients of bistro-inspired cuisine with a contemporary and whimsical design experience in the trendy hotel environment of Hotels Arts.

“We encourage guests to step beyond the yellow door and witness our great new addition to our group of restaurants and the culinary scene in Calgary,” says Fraser Abbott, director of Business Development. “Really good food, terrific wines, professional and personality-driven service along with a bright engaging room are all key ingredients in ensuring a memorable dining experience.”

Located on the lobby level of Hotel Arts, Yellow Door Bistro is part of Calgary’s emerging First Street District and is led by executive chef Duncan Ly and general manager James Werner. This 112-seat contemporized restaurant features bistro-style dishes using classic fresh ingredients but served with a modern twist.

“We’re excited to showcase classic cuisine with a refreshing sensibility,” says Ly. “We’re respectful of ingredients, where they come from and the right techniques to bring out their best flavours. We want people to enjoy flavourful and uncomplicated meals with a few welcome surprises. Our key goal though is to simply prepare really good food.”

Carl and Andrea Raimondi from award-winning Ingenium Designs have helped produce a room that is a playful portrayal of purposeful randomness. Yellow Door Bistro is a restaurant like none other in Calgary that will turn heads with its whimsical mix of textures and styles expressed through a combination of modern and period elements. Adding to the sense of play and discovery is an accessible and chic enomatic wine area where guests interact for wine tasting and dining.
