Teknion wins four NeoCon awards
Teknion Corporation recently announced that four of its new products on display in its expanded and redesigned Merchandise Mart showroom were honoured with prestigious Best of NeoCon Awards at NeoCon 2013, June 10-12, in Chicago. The Fractals Seating Group won Gold in the Seating: Collaborative/Work category as did the Surface Tension Collection in the Textiles: Upholstery category. Collecting Best of NeoCon Silver awards were Teknion’s Optos Low Profile in the Walls: Movable category, and Interpret desking system in the Furniture Systems: Enhancements category.
“We are extremely proud that the work of such respected designers as Jeffrey Bernett, Nicholas Dodziuk, Suzanne Tick and their teams involved in our new Teknion Studio initiative have been honoured in the prestigious Best of NeoCon competition with Gold awards,” says David Feldberg, Teknion president & CEO. “In addition to awards for our new collaborative furniture, it is equally gratifying to receive Silver for Optos Low Profile, and now back-to-back Best of NeoCon awards for Interpret.”
FRACTALS SEATING GROUP
Designed by Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk of CDS (Consultants for Design Strategy), Fractals Seating Group comprises a lounge chair, settee and ottoman/bench designed to support new organic planning in contemporary settings. The seating elements work together to create collaborative zones or other mini-environments in multiple cluster configurations. A higher-back option on the sofa and lounge chair more clearly delineates space and creates a greater sense of privacy. The modularity of Fractals permits a wide range of fabric combinations that allow for an expressive use of colour, texture and material.
SURFACE TENSION
As the first collection by Teknion Textiles creative director Suzanne Tick, Surface Tension is about duality and opposing forces that create interest. The goal of the collection is to maintain purity of expression, celebrating materiality and efficiency of design. Surface Tension incorporates fabrics that suggest the textile weaving process, and that pay close attention to detail in all steps of production from fibre to finished fabric.
OPTOS LOW PROFILE
Optos Low Profile walls provide unparalleled access to daylight in interior spaces, offer acoustic privacy and create space division. The structure is minimal, and sophisticated rectilinear profiles blend harmoniously with modern interior architecture. Optos Low Profile has a European aesthetic while being sensitive to North American building needs. It is ideal for creating private offices and storefront planning, enclaves, boardrooms and casual lounge surrounds.
INTERPRET
Many design refinements have been made to Interpret since its launch last year. New and unusually broad planning applications that go beyond traditional benching and desking capabilities unique to Teknion have been introduced. A distinctive metal storage program and associated accessories collection with new formats was designed to address work habits and technology requirements of today’s mobile workers. New casual screens and an extensive color and finish program round out the enhancements. Interpret was honored with a Best of NeoCon Silver Award in 2012.
The Best of NeoCon Competition winners were announced June 10 at the annual Best of NeoCon breakfast in the Gold, Silver, Innovation, Editor’s Choice, and Best of Competition categories, determined by a jury of more than 40 designers, architects and facilities managers.
