Further ahead

Allsteel Inc. has earned a 2013 Good Design award from the Chicago Athenaeum and the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. Allsteel was awarded honors in the furniture category for introduction of Further.

In designing Further, Allsteel called on IDa Design, led by Mitch Bakker. Further began as a concept to meet customers’ current needs and prepare them for changes in the workplace. Allsteel developed a system that redefines business strategy. This systematic approach allows for ultimate flexibility and reconfiguration, moving businesses forward with the ability to adapt to the future state of the workplace at a moment’s notice.

Further is a powerful platform that is simple, elegant, and efficient. The trapezoid worksurface allows for flexible orientations and the freedom to transition from collaborative to focused work. The elemental design of the hub-and-beam structure allows for rotational freedom without the need for additional parts.

Submissions to the program were judged by a jury of design professionals, industry specialists, and design press on criteria including aesthetic in terms of innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, energy efficiency, and sensitivity to the environment.
