Plato Hooks | furnipart
The Plato Hooks, which are part of furnipart’s Ocean collection, use recycled plastic in an effort to address the ongoing problem of pastic material that ends up in the water.
Based in the Danish town of Lemvig, Plastix is a small company that has developed technology which makes it possible to re-use plastic from abandoned fishing nets, and other plastic material used in the maritime industry. Plastix is also a mechanical fiber waste recycler producing plastics branded Oceanix PP and Oceanix HDPE.
“The oceans of the world are experiencing a growing problem in the form of nets, trawls and other plastic material that is simply dumped in the water,” reads furnipart’s website. “The majority of this pollution is attributable to poor onshore handling of waste, but this unfortunately translates into a growing mass of plastic – both on dry land and in the seas. If this plastic is not collected and reused, more and more plastic needs to be manufactured and used, which naturally means continued extraction of oil.”
Furnipart is currently being carried in Canada by Casson Hardware, one of the only retailers in North America to do so.
